Tiffiny Hall

We were lucky to have Tiffiny Hall as a guest speaker today. She is an author, journalist and was a trainer on Channel Ten’s The Biggest Loser

She has empowered kids with anti-bullying programs and messages of health and confidence in schools for over ten years. In 2012 she added children’s author to her extensive list of talents with the debut of her series Roxy Ran. Her chat with us today included fun activities that encourage reading, creativity, health, confidence and self-esteem.

The Roxy Ran ninja novels are action, adventure books bursting with ninjas, samurais, magic, monsters and romance.

She gave us three tips to be a good writer:
1. A good writer reads more than she writes.
2. Good characters have lots of conflict and tension. If there isn't trouble in a story it's not a good story.
3. Writing is a like a muscle - you need to practise your writing!

Tiffiny hopes that if young readers take one thing away from the series, it’s that the greatest superpower you can ever possess is confidence and self-belief. Tiffany was first inspired to write the Roxy Ran books because many of her taekwondo students were being bullied verbally, physically and online.
‘Bullies exist, not just at school but inside us all,’ she says. ‘Roxy has to stand up to bullies but also learn to stand up to herself.’
