Studying Margaret Preston in Visual Arts

This term in Visual Arts, Year 5 have been studying still life artworks by Margaret Preston. We have been viewing these art work to determine the key events, influences and experiences of her life.

Over the last few weeks we have been drawing a range of 2D and 3D shapes and transforming these shapes into objects to form domestic still life images such as using a cylinder for a vase of flowers or using spheres to represent a range of fruits. We also studied the composition of the objects, colours and shapes used and the title of the work.

We chose one of Margaret Preston's still life images and created a small A5 painting of this work. We used one colour and mixed it with white or black to create a range of shades.
